Management Team

The members of Sinopec Canada's senior management team bring with them decades of experience in all aspects of oil and natural gas operations, corporate management and business plan execution. In particular, the management team has longstanding personal familiarity and a track record of success in the geological and geographical location of Sinopec Canada's key producing assets.

Sinopec Canada's senior management team includes:

Jim Broughton | Executive Vice President, Corporate Development

Mr. Broughton was appointed as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development in February 2016. As a professional engineer with over 30 years of experience in all aspects of petroleum engineering, Jim brings extensive knowledge to the executive team. In 1984, Mr. Broughton began his career as a reservoir engineer at Petro Canada and in 1989, Jim moved to POCO Petroleums and then on to a number of progressively smaller companies including Tarragon Oil & Gas, Ventus Energy, and Vaquero Energy. Mr. Broughton joined Highphine, one of Sinopec Canada’s predecessor companies in 2009. Since that time, he has held positions of increasing responsibility at both the senior technical and executive levels in Sinopec Canada. A graduate of the University of Tulsa, Mr. Broughton holds a Bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering and is a member of APEGA.

Ryan Hansen | Executive Vice President, Operations

Mr. Hansen is currently responsible for overseeing all aspects of Sinopec Canada’s capital and production activities ensuring an ongoing commitment to operational excellence and the highest standard of health, safety, and environmental protection.  Since joining the company in 2012, Mr. Hansen has held a variety of roles with increasing leadership responsibilities within Sinopec Canada.  Mr. Hansen brings over 23 years of experience in the oil and gas industry where throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong track record of leadership, operational excellence, development planning, and execution.  Before joining Sinopec Canada, Mr. Hansen held various positions at EnCana Corporation, where he gained extensive experience in stakeholder relations, development, operations, and production engineering.  Mr. Hansen is a graduate of the University of Calgary and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a professional member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

Jiangshan Wang | Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary

Ms. Wang joined SIPC in 2004 and has worked in upstream oil and gas for 18 years. She received a double bachelor's degree in engineering and law and a master’s degree in international economic law from Tsinghua University. She gained her China Judicial Qualification Certificate in 2005. She has served as Legal Advisor, Deputy Manager, and Manager in the Legal and Contract Dept. She specialized in dispute resolution, cross-border M&A, contract analysis, and internal control management.

Wenbin Xu | Chairman

Dr. Xu is a distinguished reservoir engineering expert with extensive experience in well testing, numerical simulation, and reservoir development. He holds a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, UK, where he specialized in multiphase well testing. His career spans key roles, including Deputy General Manager at SIPC of Sinopec, China, and General Manager at Sinopec Oil and Gas Australia Pty Ltd. Dr. Xu has led significant projects, notably the integration of geology models and numerical simulations for Iran's Yadavaran reservoir, earning the first prize for science and technology from SIPC. A prolific author, he has published numerous papers on well testing and reservoir simulation. Dr. Xu has also contributed to academia by supervising PhD and Master's students, and teaching well testing courses.

Guangjun Chen | Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Chen has more than 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. Before being appointed as Executive Vice President of Sinopec Canada in June 2018, he held the position of General Counsel for Sinopec International Petroleum Exploration and Production Corporation (SIPC). He joined SIPC in March 2003 and served in various positions from project manager, deputy general manager, Vice president, Senior Vice President, accompanied with growing responsibilities in a number of oversea units within the SIPC Group such as Indonesia, Venezuela, Angola, Addax Petroleum, etc. He began his career in the East China Bureau of Petroleum when he graduated university. Mr. Chen holds a Bachelor degree in Geophysics from China University of Geosciences and a PhD in Solid Physics from the China Academy of Science.

Renjing Liu | Chief Expert

Mr. Liu has many years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry. He received his Ph.D. in Oil & Gas Field Development from the China University of Petroleum. He has worked in conventional and unconventional Oil & Gas field development in China, Brazil, and Nigeria. His experience includes Oil & Gas field exploration, development & production technology research, and project management. Mr. Liu has served as SIPC’s Deputy Director, Development & Production, and in 2023 was appointed as Chief Expert and Board of Director of Sinopec Canada

Rui Ge | Executive Vice President and CFO

Mr. Ge has more than two decades of experience in Sinopec, with a specific focus on upstream oil and gas for the past 15 years. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Anhui University of Finance and Economics and gained the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification in 2012. Mr. Ge has held various CFO positions within Sinopec, overseeing key projects in Angola and Russia. Additionally, he served as the Director for two holding companies.
